Academies, Sessions, Workshops, Exhibit Hall, Google Playground, Oh My! EdTechTeam at TCEA 2017

On Feb. 6 - 9, 2017, EdTechTeam was back at the TCEA Annual Convention and Expo #TCEA17 for the second year in a row. We had a great time catching up with old friends and partners as well as making new friends throughout the week at our sessions and events.

Sergio Villegas and I (Monica Martinez) both made our rounds covering more than 881,400 sq ft of #edtechedu space at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. Let’s just say that I made my FitBit goals everyday of that week.

We kicked off the week leading a series of sessions during the Google Academy, and ELL/ESL Academy. TCEA has been hosting the Google Academy since 2011, so I knew it was important to provide attendees with some geeky stuff. As I prepared, I sought out some new and handy tricks to share during my Leveraging the Power of Google Apps session. Resources can be found on my site (Monica’s Google Site 101) as well as on our handy G Suite Tips Poster: Back to School Update.

We also had the chance to dive in deeper into the learning during our workshops.

Among my favorites was the Deep Dive: Creating Culture by Design workshop. The room filled up more than 40 minutes before the start of the session, and they had no idea the kind of fun and activities they were in for.

Only minutes into the session and we were off playing. The workshop was filled with hands on, minds on exploratory activities. No challenge was short of problem solving, collaboration, and good old fun while learning.

Get Google Certified!
We presented to a full house in the Google Classroom theater on how educators can level up with the Google Certification Programs. Educators can benefit from three different programs: Google Educator Certification Level 1 and Level 2, Google Certified Innovator, and the Google Certified Trainer.

It was great to see so many people interested in becoming Google experts so that they could better support their students and colleagues at their schools. If you’re interested in learning more about these programs, check out the 411 here and learn some tips from experts in this handy Tips Poster.

Did you know? The next Google Certified Innovator will be held in London. Applications are open till March 6 and the event will be held on April 19 - 21. Good luck!

EdTechTeam Press
As we walked the floor and presented, we gave-a-way lots of great #edubooks from EdTechTeam Press. Among the books we gave were: Make Your School Something Special, Code in Every Class, HyperDoc Handbook, The Space, Dive into Inquiry, Innovate with the iPad, Classroom Management in the Digital Age, and the Google Apps Guidebook.

We know that the ideas, lessons and best practices shared in these books will be put to good use back in schools across Texas. Congratulations to those that received a book. If you’d like to purchase a book, go to www.edtechteam.press and use the code #TCEA17 (valid till March 31).

Hanging with EdTechTeam Partners
Walking into the exhibit hall felt like going home for a high school reunion. At every corner, we just kept bumping into our friends. It was so great catching up with Greg from WeVideo, Kay from TextHelp, Nick from PearDeck, Peter from AmplifiedIT, Grady from MaxCases, Acer, Promethean, and so many others. Thanks to all of you for your continued support and for everything you do for education.

Google Playground
On Thursday, Feb. 9, EdTechTeam hosted the Google Playground at the Google Fiber space bringing together Google Educator Group Leaders, Google Certified Trainers, Google Certified Innovators and district IT directors. We spent the evening networking, playing with the new Acer Chromebooks, checking out some cool cases by MaxCases, signing up for new GEGs and just having a little “fun” downtime. This was the perfect way to end the week.

Thanks to everyone that came out. It was so great seeing you and we look forward to working with you throughout the year. Here’s where we will be in Texas.
